FAQs – Getting Started
Are Online Casino’s legal?
Canada is an unregulated market so while online casinos don’t require a state endorsed gambling license like in other markets we suggest that you online use casinos that have a license from a reputable licensing jurisdiction. An example of this is Malta or Gibraltar and you can usually see their logo at the footer of a casino’s homepage.
How old must you be to play?
You must be at least 18 years old to sign up to online casinos in Canada.
How do I sign up to an online casino?
Though it may vary slightly from casino to casino, the process is a simple one. Look for links like Sign Up, Join Now, Register, or Create Account and follow the link. You will need to enter some basic information, such as your name, contact information and your country of residence. You may need to provide extra documentation to prove identity, such as a scan of your passport picture page.
How do I deposit money?
Depositing money at an online casino can be a daunting experience if you have never done it before. In reality, it’s no different than paying for any goods or services digitally. First, check which payment methods a casino accepts; you’ll find all that information and more in our reviews. If you are paying by credit or debit card, then enter in the card information, choose your amount and you’re ready to play! If you are signed up to an e-wallet service, then enter your username and password and, provided the wallet already has funds, you can deposit in two clicks or less!
What is a deposit bonus?
A deposit bonus, also known as a match bonus or a welcome bonus, is frequently offered by casinos when you make your first, and sometimes first few deposits. When you make a deposit, the casino will agree to match that deposit, or even exceed it in bonus funds. For example, if a casino offers a 100% deposit bonus and you deposit $50, the casino will credit you $50 of wagering credit on top of your deposit. Different casinos offer different types of welcome bonuses: the first deposit could well be doubled, tripled, or even quadrupled in bonus credit. In addition, some casinos match subsequent deposits, so that by the end of a welcome bonus you can receive over $1,000 in bonus credit. As with all bonuses, check the terms and conditions of each bonus promotion so that you understand how to fulfill the criteria. Furthermore, although you are free to wager bonus credit, you will not be able to withdraw winnings stemming from your deposit bonus until you have completed the wagering requirements. See: What are Wagering Requirements?
How do I withdraw money?
Withdrawing money is (almost) as easy as depositing it. You can have your winnings credited back to the card or e-wallet that you deposited with or if you prefer, a different one. You can have the money sent via bank transfer and some casinos may even write you a cheque and send by mail (or pigeon). Though withdrawing funds to an e-wallet account can be instantaneous, casinos usually have a few more conditions to look out for. First, check the minimum withdrawal amount and how many withdrawals you can make a day. Second, check the withdrawal timelines as some casinos will take 24 hours to process any payment. Third, if you are withdrawing a more substantial amount, you may be subject to ID verification and extended financial security checks. This is quite normal, but if the process is taking longer than claimed, then do follow up with a casino’s customer services for a status update.
Can I play casino games for free?
Yes, most casinos allow you to play their slots and table games as demos with free credit. However, you will likely not be able to demo live dealer games.
What are Wagering Requirements?
In order for bonus credit to become withdrawable funds, you must wager a certain amount of money. Often, casinos will require a player to play through 20x-50x the bonus amount and the deposit amount.
If a casino has a 100% deposit bonus and a 25x wagering requirement and you deposit $50, then you have to wager (25×50) + (25×50) which = $2,500. Bear in mind that table games only fulfil a percentage of your wagering requirements and the casino may impose a time limit on how long you are eligible to play through it.
Safety and Security
Is it safe to deposit money on an online casino?
Yes. As long as the casino is properly licensed, you can be safe in the knowledge that the games are fair, your money is protected and your rights as a consumer are upheld. As a Canadian customer, always look for the a reputable regulator logo at the footer of a casino’s homepage.
How do I know that the games aren’t rigged?
All online slots and table games use an RNG or Random Number Generator; this is a software that ensures statistical randomness over an infinite number of plays. For example, in online roulette this mirrors the randomness, and thus gives the same odds as real life roulette. For slots, the RNG is engineered to pay out the RTP (Return to Player) that is stated in each game’s information. If a slot has an RTP of 95%, then the game is tested and certified to make sure that it is accurate. On the homepage of a casino look out for the eCOGRA logo, which denotes that a casino has been audited and the software has been approved.
How do I get in touch with a casino if I need help?
Many casinos offer a 24/7 live chat option with a customer service representative. Now that we are firmly living in the 21st century, anything less comprehensive than that is a little backward. If a live chat option is not available, then a casino should certainly offer a telephone number to speak to a representative and an email option for non-urgent inquiries or a Contact Us form.
I feel as though I am spending too much money at online casinos. What should I do?
If you think that your gambling is becoming a problem, then you can close your account with an online casino. In addition, many casinos offer a self-exclusion option that means you will not be able to sign up again to that casino for a certain period of time. Contact your casino to find out how to self-exclude. If you think you have a gambling problem that is impacting your life, then contact GamCare for help and support. What games are available on online casinos?
Most online casinos have a wide range of video slot machines and table games including roulette, blackjack, baccarat, and poker. Many casinos offer live dealer games broadcast from a studio, where you can interact with your dealer and fellow players sitting around your virtual table. Many casinos also offer variations of table games and less common games such as Craps, Keno, and Scratch cards. Check each casino for an accurate directory of games offered.
What is a progressive jackpot?
A progressive jackpot is a large prize that can be triggered at any time, during any spin. It functions somewhat like a lottery; every time you spin on a progressive slot, a small portion gets siphoned off and added to a jackpot fund – including players playing the same slot across multiple casinos. At any time, your spin could trigger the grand prize, sometimes worth millions of pounds.
Which slots pay the most money?
Unfortunately there’s no definitive answer to this question; information such as which slot pays out the most money to the most people doesn’t really exist. However, you can find out the RTP of a slot game, and read reviews of slot games on websites such as ours to know about a slot’s volatility or its bonus potential.
